Three decades working to understand the physics of a whole system led Lynnclaire Dennis to understand why education, lifelong learning, is the foundation of civilisation. For her teachers are today’s unsung heroes because they hold the hand of the future, the Children.
Living in a world where complex problems are spawned as society continually judges, separating winners from losers, she designed BeLonging as a ‘whole’ classroom management system. Without touching the curriculum, it actually lets academic mandates be met by putting students in charge of the social dimension of their learning environment. Belonging replaces false competition with conscious cooperation, as over the course of a school year students rotate between eight roles, each with different responsibilities. While learning, kids experience why everyone matters and everyone counts, and in their progress they discover what it really means to lead.
