Parallel Session II: Improving the Instructional Capacity of Teachers
Improving the Instructional Capacity of Teachers in Turnaround Schools
This parallel session will introduce a specific and detailed approach that principals and school leaders may use to improve instructional practice in schools. Starting from the assumption that the school director must be an instructional leader first and foremost, Merseth will discuss a particular approach to the supervision of instruction called Instructional Rounds. Instructional Rounds have a proven capacity to change instructional practice as well as school culture by focusing in classrooms at teacher actions, student engagement with a focus on the level of rigor and depth of the material being taught.
